So here's the short story for those who are interested. (I WAS going to send it to area 52 but I think I am too stupid or too impatient to format it for their archive *sigh*)
Fate or not?

After a fire
“Help!“ The voice was strangled and Jack wasn’t sure if he’d heard something or not.
“HELP!” There it was again, a tad louder this time.
The alarm bells in his head rang instantly.
There must be someone else inside the ruined old building.
Yet he thought they’d saved everybody. He was ready to go home, jacket slung over his shoulder. Just wanted to be sure nothing of their equipment was left at the burned up place.
“Hello?” he called loudly.
There was no response.
“Hello! Anybody there?” No answer again, but a few feet away from him some bricks seemed to fall into a hole.
Jack ran in that direction, fearing he’d be too late. His jacket fell to the ground as he started to move the destroyed wall away.
A painful moan indicated that there must be someone there, stuck between the concrete rubble.
After a few seconds of frantic digging, Jack found the person. It was a young man and he was staring at him, eyes open wide in utter fear, shaking violently.
“It… it just… it…”
“It’s okay, I’ve got you,” Jack soothed in a calming voice, taking away the last bricks covering the boy’s lower body, legs and feet.
A gut-wrenching cry came from the young man as Jack tried to lift him. At least one of his legs must be broken. Burning flesh showed through several patches of burnt clothes.
Damn, Jack thought to himself, calling for the ambulance via his radio.
“You’re gonna be fine,” he assured the frightened youth.
“Thanks,” the boy said in a very low voice, close to passing out.
“What’s your name? Mine is Jack.” He just HAD to keep the conversation going.
“Dan… Daniel.”
“Okay, Daniel.” Jack found himself stroking over the guy’s forehead. “How old are you?”
In the distance, he heard the medics returning.
“Eight… Eighteen…” Daniel’s lids fluttered shut.
“Daniel,” Jack encouraged, “please look at me.” Daniel tried but passed out.

In his civvies, Jack paced in the hospital entrance. He couldn’t get those piercing blue eyes out of his mind. The blue eyes that belonged to the guy with the floppy brownish/blonde hair he rescued this morning.
He’d saved a lot of people over the years: children, women, men. Everybody was grateful; some of them even visited him from time to time. But he had never felt drawn to a victim like this. Since he saw them for the first time, those incredible blue eyes hounded his every step.
Could this be love at first sight?
Jack had come to terms with his sexual orientation a long time ago, but he didn’t believe in fate.
Love at first sight, that wasn’t a thing he believed in, but now it seemed it HAD happened.
Jack felt dizzy.
What would Doc Fraiser say?
Was the cute guy going to be all right?
No life threatening injuries?
Would he be able to talk to him?
Hell, would he, maybe, return those fuzzy feelings Jack felt in his guts all day long?
When the small doctor came out of the infirmary, Jack swallowed in anticipation.
She gave him a bright smile, “He’s gonna be fine,” she grinned widely.
“Can I talk to him?” Jack actually didn’t want to sound so eager, but the question just bubbled out of him.
“Yes, five minutes. Not more for now.” She squeezed his elbow.
“Thanks.”
His heart in his throat, not knowing what to say, Jack entered the private room of the new patient.
“Hi.” It was the only word that he was able to force out of his dry mouth.
“H… Hi.” The kid looked at him with surprised, and yet again, really huge eyes. He gestured to the chair beside his bed.
Jack sat down wordlessly. Staring at the young man covered in white bandages.
“Thank you, Jack,” he murmured.
Jack almost jumped at his name. He didn’t think the guy would have remembered it.
“You are welcome, Daniel,” he replied hoarsely.
Daniel patted the bed beside him, indicating Jack should sit there.
Jack hesitated but then did it, even though it was odd to do with a complete stranger.
“You saved my life,” Daniel whispered, taking Jack’s hand.
Jack looked up at him in surprise, not pulling away. There was a brilliant smile on the boy’s face.
“Can I…can I see you again?” Daniel asked shyly, lids fluttering.
Oh my god.
Jack’s heart skipped several beats.
“Youbetcha,” Jack croaked without thinking.
“I think we have something in common,” Daniel winked at him.
Jack nodded, “We may have.”
“Five minutes are over,” Doc Fraiser called through the slightly opened door.
“Tomorrow?” Daniel asked hopefully.
“Yeah, tomorrow.” Jack gave his hand a squeeze and stood.
Daniel made a little waving motion and then closed his eyes, smile still on his lips.
Outside, Jack actually wanted to dance with joy and happiness.
He’d never thought his job would bring him something good.
But now, obviously, it had.
He REALLY looked forward to tomorrow and the future.
There was a spark in Daniel’s eyes that told him, there WAS fate.
