If you're afraid to lose your plot, write down key-points. Also, in my experience, the muse comes while writing. Let the characters show you what they want to do. (Just, for that, you have to let them ^-^' Don't run off with the plot and drag them along, let them pull you. Let them stop and think - and thereby tell you - why they're doing what they're doing.)
I also never said that you're a bad writer... You write a lot, that's really all you can do ;)
