Probably because I WANT them to be together just don't really know how I get there and make it believable!
I had that problem with the bloody wedding. I just couldn't see how they would ever do something like that XD Exchanging rings was difficult enough (and my attempt to avoid the wedding LOL) Then people kept asking, and I began to see it as a challenge. I wanted to prove that it could be done... Then I pretty much pressed "play" on the movie in my head and let the characters run rampant. At some point, their words started to get them in the right direction, that's where I latched on.
I'm pretty sure that not pausing and letting them tell you how they want to get there won't work. I mean, getting the three of them together is about feelings. The plot is the construction that should help them along :)
