I have to admit that it’s not the nicest looking thing I’ve ever seen. The other version with the actor’s images is much more attractive, but this one had a definite plus. It’s autographed by Christian Bale and five other cast members.
I don’t know how true it is, but I read that Christian Bale hated this version. He said that it make him look like Fivel, the mouse in the cartoon movie “Fivel Goes West.”
Christian looking like Fivel? LOL I have to search for this version of the poster and look at in closely ;)
Did he like Newsies at all, when he talks about it afterwards? I'm afraid he may not, since it was a flop. (Which I still can't understand!) I wish he'd do some singing again!!
Again, it’s not the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen (style B is much more attractive), but I couldn’t resist.

In answer to your question, I don’t think he liked Newsies very much, though I’ve never read anything regarding his opinion one way or the other.
I did read that after Newsies he said that he would never do another musical. IMDB http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000288/ has this listed in the trivia portion of his biography: “[on being asked if he knew how big a flop Newsies (1992) was] You say something bad about "Newsies" and you have an awful lot of people to answer to.” Also, the webmaster of the NewsiesFreak site http://newsiesfreak.com/newsiesnow.html (under the heading of Newsies Now) had this to say about when she and her friends were outside at the premier of “Batman Begins:” “. . .While he was being interviewed, my friends and I started singing Santa Fe at the top of our lungs, and the people around us (obvious Newsie-lovers as well) joined in with us. During his interview, he pointed and laughed at us, and he also noticed the sign we were holding that said "Jack Kelly" in big letters. (I wouldn't be surprised if you can hear us singing Santa Fe in the background when they show the interview on TV sometime...)”
I think that the timing of the movie was its biggest downfall. If it were to be released now, a time when musicals rule teen entertainment in America, Newsies would be a great success. In my opinion, it beats the Disney/Ortega “High School Musical” series hands down.

I think that Disney is missing the mark by not re-releasing “Newsies” into theaters. They have nothing to lose. The movie is already made, it has a great underground following and Christian Bale is one of the hottest stars of today (and they probably paid him nothing compared to what he’s worth today).
It's so great you got it ! I was hoping to get it for free in one of the movie mags but nope. It's one I'll definitely buy though. There are not so many good posters showing him that well.
Yeah you are right! He looks absolutely stunning on it and I was totally in love again when I saw it first in the theatre (among all the Johnny ones). The thing is, I am really not sure if and how to get it up on the wall...

Date: 2009-08-17 09:09 am (UTC)I felt the same way when I bought my Newsies poster. I still don’t know where I’m going to hang the thing, but I was overjoyed to find it.
I think I’ll do a happy dance along with you.
