Hi all!

I've never done this before but I am getting a bit overwhelmed lately. So, my dears, how do you feel about jumping fandoms? Looking at my tags page, I just KNOW I like too much stuff already. But more and more is suggested to me (Twilight, SN). And, knowing myself, once a friend has suggested it and I have looked into it, there is mostly no turning back. But I don't want to abandon my old fandoms especially since new fandoms always go along with buying new stuff and I just can not do that right now.

I'm sure this happened to all of you in some way or other. How do you handle it?

I do it ALL THE TIME =) The more the better, I say. But indeed, it gets hard to keep up with everything sometimes. I mean, I often find that the more I watch or read the less I remember, and that kinda sucks =( Luckily I get bored of stuff easily as well, so it's most just one or two fandoms I'm really into at a certain point in time - now, it's Supernatural ;)

Oh God, another Supernatural fan lol Thanks so much for answering!!! But I see from your icon, that Holmes and Watson are still dear to you ;) So glad fandom jumping is normal :D Can't wait for Christian's new movie to come out!

I am a complete fandom whore. If I like it, I go after it. :-)

...then again, the fandoms I have loved have not cost me very much more than time, so.

Hey! *waving to my newest friend* May I ask what other fandoms you have beside soccer? And may I also ask, how you discovered the Bundesliga, since I read in your profile that you are not from Germany?

hugs and thanks for the answer!

Er, well, actually I'm mostly German. :-D It is merely an accident of birth that I have a United States passport -- to wit, if only my mother had gone to visit Oma a few weeks before her due date! If only! ;-) I grew up bilingual, though I've forgotten far too much, and yes, I had a Bayern München-themed sketchpad aged seven.

Other fandoms? Oh, dear. I think listing them would take forever, but let me point you to my page (http://archiveofourown.org/users/distaff_exile) at the Archive of Our Own for a start. Currently, I'm having affairs with Star Trek (2009) and pundit RPF, but my long-suffering spouses include Harry Potter, the Inspector Lynley Mysteries, and Jeeves and Wooster. I'm equal-opportunity slash/het/gen (they all have their wonders) and don't balk at shipping more than two people.

From: [identity profile] delorita.livejournal.com
Bilingual sounds cool!!! I almost feel like I am now. Denn ich denke manchmal schon englisch :D

Harry Potter? I've read all seven books and lots of FF. Came into the fandom at Order of the Phoenix, because I am a Gary Oldman fan too. Sirius is not dead and yes, I do pair him with his Godfather...(Don't hate me now lol)

I visited your page.

And I just decided, that I won't write a fic in German ever again lolol

Current obsession: 09 Holmes and Watson as you may have noticed :D

I'm probably better off in English for the time being, but I'm currently working my way through a fic series that's in both English and German, reading them side by side so I can see the way things translate. It's great fun! Voices change between languages; I hear them so differently and it's just mindblowing.

I went "La, la, la, DH never happened" when the seventh book came out, so I don't think I'm in a position to hate on anyone, here. ;-)

Holmes and Watson! Eeeee, once I get all my fic recs over to this journal, there's one series in that fandom -- a Holmes/Watson/Mary triad fic -- that was amazing. OMFG.

Date: 2010-07-20 04:08 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] delorita.livejournal.com
Oh I can see how reading the fics side by side can be great fun! That is way better than studying a language in school. I did learn english through reading fanfic and listening to the original movies. I almost ALWAYS HATE the dubbing voices!!! Especially when I know the original actor's voice. I did not have a problem with Watson's German when I watched the movie for the first time in the theater, cuz I didn't know JUde's then. BUT once I had seen all those interviews, listening to his british, I was HOCKED (hooked? lol) and almost couldn't bear the synchro when I went to the theatre for the next time. It was not THAT bad for Holmes but almost.

So, a good Mary/Watson/Holmes story? Ohhhhh link pluease????

It's this series here (http://archiveofourown.org/series/2056). Enjoy!

p.s. It is "hooked" but then, English and its spellings... not logical.

Thanks so much for the link! It took me to a general page...Do you remember the title of the story? I think I already read a while ago "three in a bed" in LJ. I WILL have a look into this asap.

And about the spelling...I am just too lazy to open up my dictionary all the time...tsk tsk

Just so you know, if you step into Twilight, I will frown upon you... :X

I usually have room for fandoms. No problem there ;)

From: [identity profile] delorita.livejournal.com
lolol yes, I frowned upon Twilight all the time as well. But my sis has a big influence on me and we do tend to like the same stuff...

Did you see Twilight? Two of my usually hard core slash fans liked it too, that's why I got slightly curious...

Date: 2010-07-15 04:34 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] sorion.livejournal.com
I tried to read it once and managed all of ten pages before throwing it out of the window...

And to be honest, I wouldn't watch the movie if you paid me. It's a Mary Sue nightmare, and I can see that without having to watch it :/
I could go for lengths why it doesn't just annoy me, but half of the concepts downright infuriate me, but don't get me started, please ^-^'

I'll just leave you with these XD

lolol now I am even more confused. Two of my friends suggest it warmly and you won't probably talk to me ever again when I watch it lolol Do you like vampire stuff at all?

I just discovered by cleaning my closet, that I also have "Fackeln im Sturm" to watch.

I have other Twilight fans on my flist ;-P Though not many... :X
Of course I like Vampire stuff. I love it. Or, well, I used to, because the current sparkle!Vamp hype is killing the mood something fierce.

SPOILERS
Even taking away the fact that Ed is the most one-dimensional character in history and really only looks good, sparkles and stares at her... I just want to hit that girl. I mean, really. When some guy stares through your bedroom window for months, he even breaks in to sit in a corner and watch you sleep, that is NOT romantic, and you do NOT go to prom with that guy, you call the fucking police. You definitely do not give up everything at age seventeen, just to be ~*~immortal~*~ with the sparkly stalker. That doesn't even take into account that he'll almost kill her while having sex, the demon spawn that is being created is almost going to kill her from the inside out, and he has to perform a c-section by vamp teeth to get the little monster girl out, who will then be pre-destined to get together with the werewolf who had the hots for her mother.
/SPOILERS

And the whole thing is badly written, the movie badly made and horribly acted.
I did tell you not to get me started XD And I didn't even get into it, yet :X

Keine Ahnung ^-^''''

Oh lolol haha thanks for the description. So glad you do like vampires! My very first favourite was Antonio's Armand in IWTV. Then I was blown away by Gary Oldman's Prince Vlad. Just last year I watched the somewhat odd Dracula 2000 but like Gerry Butler's Dracula as well. Also I got into the serial Blood Ties and just LOVE Henry Fitzroy (who also can NOT live during the day time!). Too bad that serial has only one season :(

"Fackeln im Sturm" ist "North and South" in english (glaub ich, mit Patrick Swayze.)

I pretty much grew up with Christopher Lee XD Dad showed us all of his Dracula movies when we were kids :) And, yes, Gary Oldman blew me away, too. (Btw. My sister is going to cosplay Lestat in a few weeks... :3 But he gets away with being about as much of an idiot as our Ed... :X)

Ah... I think I remember that one being pretty nostalgia kitsch XD But I could be wrong, so don't quote me on that LOL

which one being nostalgia kitsch?

Lestat...I don't like Tom Cruise since he has that thing with sientology (sp??)...but I love Anne Rice's writing style!

Fackeln im Sturm being kitsch ;)

Why do you think Lestat is being taken apart on stage? :3 I absolutely detest Scientology.
And Anne Rice... well... she lost her marbles a few years back and has become completely dilusional. Kind of amusing, actually XDDD But ever since then, her grandness has decided that she - in her perfection - doesn't need an editor. Everyone needs an editor, her grandness (especially) included.

If you would like to know what I meant by "lost her marbles"... she deemed it necessary to rant on Amazon six years ago and insult people who didn't like her newest book. And her rant was so hilariously bad, that I had to post an entry XD

See what I mean? :3

From: [identity profile] delorita.livejournal.com
okayyy...Well, I think I read only 2 books from Anne Rice. So I can't say much about all that. Maybe if I picture Lestat as another actor, I might like him ;)

I know Anne R doesn't want fanfic about her characters at FF.net. (I wrote a story about Armand anyway lol)

And I don't know about Fackeln im Sturm anymore. I watched that 20 years back or so! Maybe I'll think the same about it now! I'll tell you when I started to watch it again ;)

Date: 2010-07-25 07:22 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] sorion.livejournal.com
I don't really like her style, it's too overblown for my tastes. I like my stories at least a little more to the point ;) But even I can tell that her earlier books used to be good (even if not really something for me).
Now, she's suffering from delusions of grandeur. And possibly schizophrenia (I hear Lestat is talking to her XDDD)

Let me know about Fackeln im Sturm when you get to it :)

Fandom jumping?

From: [identity profile] antares04a.livejournal.com
It seems I'm very ... conservative in that regard. *lol*

I have one great love and that is Stargate (SG-1 and SGA) and even there I'm only interested in slash.

In all the other fandoms I only read a bit from time to tiime and I rarely do fanwork for them.

But as it is already time-consuming to keep up with all the Stargate related stuff, I can imagine how you feel with seven, eight or even more fandoms. *g*

Hey Antares!!! How do you do it to be still so interested in Stargate? I wish I would be! But I think I overdid it in the past and wrote everything about it and did every wall I could make. But then, I never watched SGA.

Danke für die Antwort!! hugssssss

Keine Ahnung.

Thanks for the explanation :D

knowing myself, once a friend has suggested it and I have looked into it, there is mostly no turning back I must have done my job very badly then, since you're still not falling for SPN ;D

We've talked about that already but I think I need to have one big fandom and many smaller ones to keep me entertained and to always have a vast choice available and never get bored. As someone else above said, the more the better ! I'd rather feel overwhelmed by too many goodies and to know that there's always something interesting to watch/read/make a wallpaper about, than wonder what to do. I think once SG-1 was over, I just needed to find a new big fandom and SPN was it for me. You know how deeply and how quickly I fell in love with the boys :D Definitely the biggest fandom I've ever been a part of, and I love it ! But I'm not forgetting any of my previous, smaller ones. As for money, fandom is my first hobby so I don't mind spending some on DVDs.

I can't even read most of your tags ;D Though I do read very well Christian Bale ;)

Merci Siriala!!! I may not be able to watch SPN but you confinced me about Christian, that's why you can see his tag so very well ;) I think you are right, the more the better. I will try and won't let me be overwhelmed but enjoy the different stuff just when the muse strikes :D bisous

If there is a fandom I like, I'll jump on board and read everything online. But often times, I get bored so I have to mix it up. One good thing about being in so many comms, because when one bores me, I can go back to another and catch up on that stuff.

Currently, I'm ripping through the Supernatural and Merlin fic comms again. :D Well, when I have time to read fic anyway. :)

Heyyyyy *waving* So nice to hear from you :D I am glad everybody is having fun online :D I will do the same and just let my heart direct the way :D Yesterday I watched the HP7 P1 trailer and I guess I'll jump into the Harry fandom again in fall!

Oooh, I haven't seen the trailer yet, I think I'm a little scared to. But I also know that when the movie comes out I wont be able to avoid it, so I don't really want to get sick of the trailer, ya know? But I'm totally excited for it. Harry Potter will always be the one fandom I never fully leave for long periods of time. There are too many of my favourite fics in that fandom.

Date: 2010-07-20 02:45 pm (UTC)

I only watched the trailer because I already know the book. I normally avoid trailer as well! I won't watch it again so I won't get sick of it. I did not like the sixth movie so much because Sirius wasn't in it. Not sure what will happen after I have seen part1 of movie 7. Well, there is still a long time to go.

I have dozens of favorite fandoms at any given time. There's always room for more. Yes, sometimes it hurts to feel that special passion lessen a little when something else takes its place, but it isn't as if you lose anything, really.

I haven't read any of the 'Twilight' books, but I love the movies, especially 'Eclipse.' Charlie and I are definitely having fun with it right now. Am I embarrassed to be turning into an R-Patz girl? No way! I loved him when he was Cedric Diggery, so why not now?! (And I'm obsessed with the whole Cullen vampire family thing. Daddy Cullen is a special favorite!)

Man, I don't have any icons yet, so I'll just revert to type, hehe.

thanks so much Marylin for writing this to me *VBG* You really make me curious. A R-Patz fangirl? lol sounds funny. But I guess now you have yet another vampire to compare in your collection. Well, my vacation is over but maybe I'll rent the first two movies anyway. Who plays Daddy Cullen, do we know him from elsewhere?
